I own all of my vehicles outright hence it being "self insured" minus liability of course.  I don't believe in car payments.  

If someone steals my car I will call the police and ask them to pull over the first Delorean they see.  

When I was in high school my bicycle got stolen.  I called the police to report it and the guy told me they would never be able to find a missing bicycle.  Then I mentioned to the person on the phone that my bicycle had a chain saw motor attached to it and that my loud bicycle could do 30 mph.  

Within 30 minutes my bicycle was recovered.  My bicycle was rare and they found it.  Deloreans are even rarer.

As long as you don't hit anything and it is your fault or you catch anyone that hits you, you would be OK. If the car is financed you are supposed to continue full coverage for the lender.
