Actually you won't snap the studs doing the nuts up - they are (or should be) hardened. You're more likely to pull the threads out of the head than snap the studs although if they came out easily, the threads should be fine and you'll be able to get the specified torque on them Martin Sent from my BlackBerry® -----Original Message----- From: "Tom Niemczewski" <dmctom@xxxxxxxxx> Sender: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2012 12:49:03 To: <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Reply-To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [DML] Exhaust manifold torque figures I have two different books. Last night I looked through the one with PJ Grady page at the beginning. The other one has black plastic covers. I'll check that one today to see if there's any info there. I thought that they are all the same... I wonder where the differences came from. Anyway, I got the studs out a long time ago. They came out surprisingly easy. No snapping, no brute force, no vice grips. I soaked them overnight and they just unscrewed no problem. I'm now in the process of reassembly and want to make sure I do it right. I covered the threads with anti seize, got new gaskets and now I'm ready to torque the nuts. If I don't tighten them enough I will blow the new gaskets out. If I over do it I risk snapping the studs. 7mm is not a whole lot of material and they are easy to break. Take care, Greetings from Poland! Not an item you want to snap off. > I haven't done that job, but I'm guessing a good soaking with PB Blaster > and an overnight sit couldn't hurt before you get the tools out. > -Wayne > vin 11174 > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ian <texas.twister@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: dmcnews <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Mon, Jun 25, 2012 7:50 pm > Subject: Re: [DML] Exhaust manifold torque figures > > > I have an original manual and it was at the beginning with all the torque > specs. > I'm not at home right now but I will scan them and send them to you if you > want > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > ------------------------------------ > > To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: > moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx > > For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see > www.dmcnews.com > > To search the archives or view files, log in at > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
