Re: [DML] Spec .02 Steering -- Success

Vibration reduction is the Spec .02 difference. Spec .02 is the only lower steering column option with this benefit.

Vibration reducing U joint technology does appear to be proprietary to Borgeson BTW (I couldn't find any other vibration reducing U joints via Google).

There seems to be some confusion about how Borgeson's U joints are made. The bearing cross is identical in every joint they sell. Only the ends are different, to accommodate different size shafts of course. When you order a joint, Borgeson simply sticks whatever size ends you want on either side of a standardized bearing cross and ships it out the same day.

Speaking of which: I did not order an exact duplicate of Toby's or Houston's orders. My bearing crosses and the 9/16-36 ends are indeed identical, but I ordered a 3/4-DD shaft and appropriate inner ends instead of a splined shaft and ends so I could cut it to whatever length I wanted. If an owner wants Spec .02 but with a splined shaft, ask for one 11.5" long (splines are 7/8" long on each end).

I don't understand all this controversy. Borgeson sells U joints and connecting shafts -- period. The only engineering was done by *ME* in *MY* own driveway (cutting the DD shaft to length and drilling a couple of dimples for the set screws to nestle into). You don't hear me complaining. In fact quite the opposite: I have been totally open and honest about this experiment. I have posted all results, including the failed rag joint. And I have freely given out the part numbers I used and the length of my shaft. I could not have been any more transparent even if I had performed the work nude.

Spec .015 is identical to Spec .02, but with carbon steel ends because the owner is too cheap to cough up an additional $30 for stainless ones. Steve will be reporting on Spec .015 shortly.
