Harold, Yes so simple but then you couldn't sell a tank.

Seems to me that you could just move back about an inch, drill a hole in the
tank and use a large truss-head bolt (or hex head - either would give you
lots of flat surface for a good gasket fit) long enough to provide threads
inside to attach the baffle/pickup - use proper gaskets inside and out with
a washer inside and a nut. Tighten down and you have a new stud in the tank.
