The problem with the shift linkage pivot bolt is that it is a really odd size shoulder bolt. If it breaks away from home, chances of finding a replacement over the counter are slim. Carrying a spare in the glove box is indeed cheap insurance. In a worst case scenario (broken pivot bolt, no spare) you can climb under the car and manually shift into 1st or 2nd gear to limp to a safe haven. Every owner with a 5-speed should have an extra pivot bolt kept in the car as a spare. I DID say he might need to open the transmission and do the roll pins but if you review my post you will see I did say to do adjustments and lubrication first. If that did not cure the problem he WOULD be going into the transmission. Bottom line-If you have to force something it is usually best to figure out what's wrong and fix it BEFORE it breaks and is a bigger (read more expensive) job to fix. > David Teitelbaum > ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
