Even if common usage differs from precise word derivation or meaning, if you want to be understood, use the common convention. Everyone knows what 100K means. Nobody wants to pay $100M for a $100K house. My favorite is "plastic." Nobody knows what a "polymer cup" is, but everyone knows what a "plastic cup" is.
