You *CAN* do a lot of things if you're prepared to make modifications to the car. Having a damned good reason is a good first step, and in my opinion, yours ain't one if your reasoning can be defeated by:

The headlights won't fit correctly
The bracket is not restrained up top
The issue of access is easily overcome with longer screws and/or a better screwdriver

Irrespective of merits, or lack thereof, of flipping the headlight brackets and buckets over, this simple fact remains: it *CAN* be done (quite easily). Apparently someone on DMCTalk was claiming it could not.
