Re: [DML] Rob Grady's Personal Lower Suspension

Only the outer portion of the OEM LCA was used.

Which does bring up a weakness in the design: it is still subject to failure at the end (more common than you'd expect -- it happened to a European owner just before the old DMCTalk site went down, Byrne has several pics of the failure on his website, and this owner recently posted pics of his failure: http://www.discordia.org/~jason/lowercontrolarm.jpg).

Note also that James Espy told me at DMA FFT'11 he has seen OEM LCA's that won't hold onto their first replacement ball joint (the OEM ball joint pad is very thin).

On a related note: I received another eMail that a certain English owner who argued vociferously for the OEM design and against upgrading it to a pseudo lower wishbone is actually working on true lower wishbone himself. Curious indeed.

I've also received word that one of the owners who drove my car at DMA FFT'11 has ordered components for himself. As Rob and a certain English owner can attest, anyone who has ever driven an upgraded lower front suspension will never go back to OEM.
