I bet it mattered to the British taxpayers (and eventually us as end users) who got a rather shabbily engineered product, certainly not worth the tens of millions of dollars (less $17 million of course) deposited into Lotus' coffers. 

That said, woe to the owner who improves what Lotus wrought, then publicly discloses the results. He or she will make the purists' and dogmatists' brains explode.
