I've often thought this could work. I'm on a couple other forums where all new subscribers are subject to moderation for a week or two to make sure they are not spammers, after that it's open. Offenders can be put on that status as well. One thing that everyone needs to watch - when replying to a post please trim (edit/delete) off the prior quotes as much as makes sense. Otherwise you end up with one-sentence replies that go on for pages of requotes, which really messes up the archives/digests and makes the messages a huge pain to read on a cellphone.
