Had an interesting conversation with a CEO of a manufacturing company a few days ago. He went to GMI (general motors technical institute) in the early 70s and began his career working for GM in Buffalo. He was with a group of 7 friends who all went to GMI. While at GM, they had to wear the had to conform to the strict GM dress code. White shirts, ties down to your belts, folded cuffs a certain way, etc. The corporate lemming dress code. However, their hero was JZD. He had long side burns, colored shirts, etc. He and his friend could not wait for JZD to take over. However, it was obvious to them, at that time, the bean counters were taking over. They went from 129 different rear axles, to just 20 in 3 years. Then, JZD quit. And shortly thereafter, so did they. Good talent jumped shipped along with JZD, because these you "hippie types" did not fit the culture. It is too bad, GMs power extended beyond Detroit, and they stopped a revolution against the corporate lemming culture.
