Revising my comment on this; Spoke to someone with a NOS compressor, seals blew out within a few months.. Having a compressor sitting on the shelf, even if it is sealed, does not keep the seals lubricated with oil.. A 30 year old "used" compressor will probably be in better shape than a NOS. (IMHO). Also, I hate to pick on the DML Moderators, because they are volunteers, but having a message I sent out on Saturday put out to the list on Tuesday is a bit crazy. It is no wonder people are flocking to DMCTalk. :( --- On Sat, 6/4/11, Marc Levy <malevy_nj@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: Marc Levy <malevy_nj@xxxxxxxxx> > Subject: Re: [DML] AC Compressor blows a back plate? > To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Date: Saturday, June 4, 2011, 4:27 PM > Not taking sides here, but Comparing > a 30 year old compressor that has been installed in a car, > with freon in the system for all that time is NOT a good > comparison to one that has been sitting in a warehouse, that > (possibly) has had it internals exposed to the air all that > time. > > If the NOS compressors are still "sealed" then, it is not > as big of an issue. > > > --- On Sat, 6/4/11, Jake Kamphoefner <jakekamp@xxxxxxx> > wrote: > > > My 30-year-old compressor is still working just fine, > and > > it has been in a lot > > worse environment than a warehouse (namely, my engine > > bay). > > > ------------------------------------ > > To address comments privately to the moderating team, > please address: > moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx > > For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see > www.dmcnews.com > > To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
