Re: [DML] Carbon fiber louvers - anyone interested?

Hello Tom,

I have no need for your carbon fiber louvers at this time. I do however, appreciate your wide angle mirrors everytime I drive my DeLorean. They are a great safety upgrade for the cars. They were super easy to install since I had no need to hook up the heater element.
Thanks for making them available.

Best wishes for your new project.

Hello everyone,

I'm talking with a company that fabricates components out of carbon fiber. This is a high quality shop that makes quality products. I showed them our louvers and lower engine cover and asked them about the possibility of making those out of CF. From what they are saying we could lower the weight of louvers by about 50-60% while making the whole assembly a lot stiffer. That means that the lift struts would last a lot longer. Also, they would not crack of break like the original do and no white marks would show up when scratched. You could also say goodbye to fading (carbon will not fade). We could make those with visible carbon fibers or painted original semi gloss black.
Would there be enough interest? The initial setup is really a killer here and I would need at least 10 people committed to start the production run.
The prices we are looking at are:
Rear louvers: $2000
Lower engine cover: $1400

Those prices are just estimates but are top caps at the same time. This means that the price will not be higher than this. If we get more than 10 people on the project then the prices will go down.
If there is enough interest in the project I will post more details and a time frame for the production and delivery.

We are also talking about producing front and rear fascias but at this time I don't have the prices yet. We could make those out of CF-Kevlar composite for strength with a little flexibility. Other materials are also possible.
