Hi Gary, I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and as you can see from the recent flurry of activity on this forum, I'm sorry you weren't the only one negatively impacted by the DOA's past leadership. One of the reasons I got involved was to try and steer things back onto the right track. That would be the track where the community that cares about the car, company, man and, most importantly, each other is our first and foremost concern. The people that were responsible for acts such as you describe below are no longer with the organization. We could however, use more people like you, who seem to have genuinely cared about the welfare of the organization once, and continue to care about the community as a whole. The DOA has a long way to go to get back to greatness, I realize, but the road is impassable if no one is left that's willing to give us a chance. -Josh Josh Haldeman - Vice-President DeLorean Owners Association From: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of gmfm1@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, January 15, 2011 4:56 PM To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: RE: [DML] DeLorean Owners Association?? Hi Josh, I was a member of the DOA for many years. I even ran and helped run a local chapter for a while. The local chapters were dissolved because of the tax and insurance reasons by the DOA, at least that was the excuse given. Funny thing thought, the previous president of Chapter 35 and myself were never told of these requirements until the chapters were dissolved. As far as the chapters were concerned, we got absolutely no benefits. I was in Scottsdale, AZ, at the DOA's outing in December (I don't remember the year) and we had a chapter coordinator's meeting. The following January, we get the notice that all of the chapters are disbanded and that if we want to be a chapter here is the list of rules to be followed, all of which favored the DOA including their right to throw out all of the officers if they didn't like what was going on and to confiscate the treasury of the chapter. You mean to tell me that the officers didn't know that this was going to happen in December, I don't think so. This is also when the annual dues went from $30 to $45 per year. I stayed on for a number of years after that as an individual, but when dues went from $45 to $75 a year and you had to join for three years, I just stopped. I have never received another mailing of any kind from the DOA. Obviously, I don't have good memories of the DOA from all of the things that went on because of the click that was running it at that time. I know first hand how much effort it takes to run a club and there are never enough hands to do all of the work. I wish you luck, but you have a hard road to travel to convince those of us that have past history with the DOA that things have changed. Maybe, updates through here, if allowed, with what the current dues are and what benefits one would receive for joining would be helpful.
