This is assuming that good transfers are made from film that has aged well. Unfortunately, I have seem some HD transfers from film that have more jitter than the older DVD transfers. I suspect this is because the original 35mm prints are 10-15 years older on Blu-Ray than they were on DVD. (It's similar to what happens in the world of audio: you will hear someone say "The LP sounds better than the CD." This is because when the LP was made, the tapes were fresh. When the CD was made 20 or 30 years later, the tapes were that much older and you can't get as good sound from them anymore.) It's a trade-off -- digital sound restoration plus scratch, sparkle, hair, and dirt removal versus shakier picture (and sometimes different colour, if you're viewing a colour film). I noticed this when I looked at the Blu-Ray version of Star Trek II -- it has far more frame jitter than the DVD transfer from several years before. On the other hand, I suspect in the case of the BTTF trilogy the prints are in good condition because the oldest of the films is just over 25 years old, and it has probably been in climate- and humidity-controlled storage the entire time -- unlike some films from, say, the 1940s. The HD transfer of BTTF3 should look spectacular; I might buy it, if it's available separately. That's your useless opinion for the day. :) Farrar Hudkins #2613 On Wed, Jun 30, 2010 at 11:09 AM, christopher_sztybel < csztybel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > Finally.
