Actually they can last 13 years, My Mom had a Volvo with a stock battery that lasted that long. Batteries un used start to degenerated 30 days of non use and will go flat or near flat. Then if you try to charge it back up it won't have the capacity. Regular batteries have to be used like your everyday car batteries is used or they will go dead. The normal everyday car or truck batteries can last up to five years if attended to properly. Since then I have used the MAXX78 and have never had one to last more than two years. With another MAXX failure I decided to upgrade. I bought an Optima Yellow top and installed a battery disconnect switch. I got the switch at Advance Auto, Battery Doctor #20128. It really fit the Optima well. The Optima has the posts lower down on the side and more toward the center of the battery. The disconnect mounted on the positive post has plenty of room to operate. I have to raise the carpet and remove the plastic cover for access but since I likely will only use it two or three times a year that should not be a problem.
