If you need a gas cap, you can get one at any auto parts place. Most that I've been to will even let you go ahead and test them out to make sure which one fits. I got a silver one, and it seals well enough that I'm the only one who can get it off of the car. However, you don't want simply a "temporary" replacement. You need a permanent one. They check gas caps for a very good reason. If you're cap fails, vapors are leaking out and that means: 1. You're polluting the environment. Gasoline vapor will condensate with morning dew, it doesn't just disappear. 2. You're wasting fuel. Once I replaced my cap I immediately noticed I was getting about 20 or so more miles per tank of fuel. That's about a gallon of gasoline I was just throwing away each fill-up. 3. If you park in a garage, flammable gasoline vapors are very dangerous if you've got a water heater or clothes dryer in there. If you're really attached to your cap, see if maybe you can't get it repaired with a new rubber seal somewhere. But DON'T put it back on the car. -Robert vin 6585 "X" --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "sweitzel_2000" <sweitzel@...> wrote: > > Does anyone know where I could find a generic gas cap replacement? My locking cap still works, but my car is going to fail California smog because the cap doesn't pass the machine test. It should have failed 2 years ago, but the smog shop tech let it slide by putting a test cap on the machine and told me to get a new one. I need to smog it by the end of the week and was hoping I could just get a temporary cap locally for the test. > ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
