"Synthetic" is very much a marketing term for Castrol. Their "synthetic" oil is just highly refined dino oil. Mobil sued them over this a few years back and remarkably lost. There is a reason Mobil (and other legitimately synthetic oils) cost more than Castrol but the average uneducated consumer just sees the word "synthetic" and gets all excited.
