I *like* the DOA. For years I was its biggest proponent on the DML and I am pleased to see so many DMLers take an interest and jump to its defense. Bravo. I agree that the cost of magazines is part of the DOA's dues, but that cannot be the whole explanation. There are certainly bigger membership pools for the Studebaker and Porsche marquees, but what about Bricklin? There is no mathematical reason for the DOA to be so much more expensive than the Bricklin International Owner's Group. And Brickline magazine is (supposedly) a quarterly publication. - Mike Substelny VIN 1280 From: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steven Alves Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:21 AM To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [DML] DOA/DCS I normally wouldn't comment on this but.... I previously owned several monthly magazines. You have a fixed printing cost regardless of how many magazines you print just to make it to press. The actual cost per magazine is much lower when you print a larger quantity. For many of these clubs the number of members would allow a larger press run and thus a lower cost per magazine. The fewer members in a club, the higher the cost to each member for the magazine. Without knowing much about the DOA or the number of members I would have to guess if there were twice the number of members, the cost per member would drop dramatically for the same benefits. Kind of a double edged sword.. More members would reduce the cost and allow more benefits, but no one wants to join a club with a high cost and no benefits.
