Yes, to replace the alternator belt, you'll have to loosen the alternator brackets. You'll need 2 large wrenches (I forget which sizes), but those will be enough to do the job. And (IMPORTANT) disconnect the battery before doing anything with the alternator. Once the belt is on, adjust the alternator brackets to make the belt tight. This is easier if you have a helper.
