Years ago I was going through clutch slave cylinders every 10,000 miles (an every day driver in Houston). At about 40,000 miles I replaced the slave cylinder and rebuilt the clutch master and installed silicone fluid, at the time DOT 5. I never had another problem with the clutch - I sold the car at 90,000 miles. Recently I noticed that Valvoline has a DOT 4 that is silicone.
