About 11 years ago I acquired a set of vintage service manuals in unused condition. I have had these along with some other Delorean related memorabilia stuffed into a closet since then and never really looked at the materials inside the box. The other day I decided to take a look. Inside, I found a pile of newspapers from various parts of the country reporting on the entire Delorean for drugs scandal from start to finish. It was interesting to see what was actually being said about John BEFORE the truth came out. The rumors, the gossip, the girlfriends. There's even a piece on how he crashed his car leaving the courtroom...No, not a Delorean. Not even a GM product. Yes, it was a black Jaguar! Who knew that? Our hero drove a Jaguar! After reading through all the stories, I found it amazing that history left behind so many details about this man and we just keep on hearing the same old homogenized stories. Beside the newspapers, I got a little surprise. Hidden inside the leaf of the Service Manual binder jacket were two letters from DMC, in Irvine California dated January 1982. The first was a recall notice for vin # SCEDT26T88D000870 and the other was a personal "thank you" letter from John Delorean himself with his original signature on his personal stationary to the first owner of that car. Anyone know who owns 870? For anyone else interested in these items and some other miscellaneous things in the box, I have posted them on eBay. The item numbers are: 110406976424, 110406982772 and 110406978023. If you get a chance, check them out.
