I know of several people that have attempted an "improved" version but as of yet none are available for the public at large. You can still get the shift computers N.O.S from the venders and there are ways to repair the ones that malfunction. Once repaired the failure rate is low (if done properly). The most important thing is to not drive on a bad shift computer. aka, Comparitive Gov Assy. Once you damage the intermals of the automatic transmission it will cost a whole lot more than just the shift computer. BTW perhaps a better descriptive name for the thing would be shift controller. It really isn't a computer and it doesn't really do what a govenor does. If you have the other 2 "bad" controlers, send one of them out for repair.
