Agreed, but since the "local" lock is 4 feet over your head when the door is open, that should do a reasonable job of ihibiting the ability to lock it with the door open. (When is the last time you locked your door with the door wide open using THAT door?) If you can inhibit the electrical function, then the case where your passenger gets in and locks the door before the driver door is closed will be less likely to damage something.
