For what it's worth, I've driven my DeLorean for twelve years and I've not had nearly the degree of angle drive problems that some are describing! I've only replaced my angle drive once. Granted, I don't drive my car nearly as much as I used to or as some of you do, but I wouldn't describe my angle drive service regiment as terribly diligent either: Every year or so (whenever I have the car on the lift and I think about it) I unhook the speedometer cable, remove the screw on the angle drive, and add a dash of Red Line 75w90 synthetic (my gearbox oil of choice) to the drive. I also give the lower cable one shot too for good measure before I reassemble it... That routine has been working for me for about eight (?) years, when I replaced the failed one with an NOS unit (that will date it - those haven't been around for a while). I'm driving the DeLorean today and the speedo needle is just as smooth and steady as always. Maybe I'm lucky?
