Robert, Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't sound like you've read the book. This is NOT what the author is portraying in the least. Not even close. John is portrayed as something of a mild folk hero, not a "lowly investment banker". You don't want people to make assumptions about your car and it's maker, so why are you turning right around and making them about this author and his work? Shouldn't you at least give the book a chance? BTW, the author informs me that the movie is tentatively to be titled, "Famous Last Words". I have not tried a search for that on IMDb yet, but maybe it'll get you pointed in the right direction. He tells me that the screenplay is currently being written by Phillip Chung, who wrote "The Fast and the Furious", and is due by mid-February. I can't tell you if the movie will even remotely resemble the book, but if it does, I would say that a lot of people would walk away with a better, not worse opinion of our hero. -Josh From: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of therealdmcvegas Sent: Monday, January 26, 2009 1:36 PM To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [DML] Re: New DeLorean Book...Maybe a Movie! Wow!! I have to agree with James on this one. Where are we supposed to know where fantasy begins, and where it ends. Especially if suddenly JZD who was a known health-nut is now portrayed as an alcoholic. Instead of raising awareness, that's just another damn inaccuracy taken as fact that I now have to fight. On top of that, if this does become an actual movie (I can't seem to find the title on IMDB, let alone tied to anyone's names), we're going to be subject to the director's vision. And if he/she doesn't like JZD or our cars, then people WILL be displayed a negative viewpoint that they will then take as fact. Doing a little digging on this "psuedo-Kato Kaelin", I found a couple of articles. http://tinyurl.com/afxndr http://tinyurl.com/cc7vag This is just lovely. No, I don't want to literally judge a book by it's cover, but if what I'm reading here is correct, this is bad news. So now instead of John DeLorean being this engineering type, who educates himself about business and strikes out to start his own company, he's now nothing more than akin to a lowly investment banker? He had no desire to actually build a car at all, and didn't care what it was that made him money? People are going to read this and associate the DMC-12 with nothing more than a MacGuffin. That it was just a tool for JZD to swindle money away from investors. Especially since now according to this book we see JZD as some sort of reckless "deal-maker" being compared to the same types of unpopular ones in the news now related to the nation's current real estate crisis. Instead of JZD's bad business decisions, or economic conditions, now he was just meant to undo himself because his whole motivation was greed with everything else being damned. Great. This will kill any positive image of the man, and will simply land us more and far worse criticism and harassment from people heckling us with innacuracies. At least time erased previous memories and allowed us the chance to reeducate people on the facts. This book will destroy all that. It's a work of fiction that people will take as fact. We won't ever find out the whole truth about JZD, DMC, and many other things. We can only speculate. But at least when I and others speculate we make it repeatedly clear that what we're saying is of our own opinions and not absolute fact. Unlike this hack author who simply wants to lump things together to make a quick buck at the cost of our marque. -Robert vin 6585 "X" [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
