Sorry Marc, I don't agree completely with you there. Speaking on behalf of the `other other' DeLorean magazine (Ken K got in just in front of me here!) the DeLorean Owners Club (UK) continues to produce a printed version of DeLorean News magazine for our membership: http://www.deloreans.co.uk/features/deloreannews/deloreannews.html In spite of the trend towards online publishing over the past few years, DeLorean News has gone from strength to strength over this time and is now a full colour 16-page title, published four times a year. The content is largely submitted by club members but I like to keep members informed of `global' DeLorean-related news items too; we have also had articles from the likes of Ken K and James Espey in recent years. I understand that some of the other magazines discussed earlier are not / were not directly related to an owners club, per se. However, where DeLorean News is concerned, in order to create an inclusive environment for a club you've got to cater for the lowest common denominator and the fact remains that while almost everyone these days has an e-mail address and access to the internet, almost everyone still does not mean everyone! The magazine also helps to promote the club and cars shows. Prospective members can thumb the pages of a magazine on our club stand and get a feel for the club and its members. The question has been raised several times at club meetings regarding an online version of DeLorean News magazine in .PDF format but it's a move that we have so far resisted. Not because we refuse to move with the times but because there is a value in a printed magazine which is sadly not afforded with an electronic title. It's something nice to keep and to flick through over a cup of coffee on a rainy day when you're waiting for the broadband repair guy to come and fix your internet connection. Speaking of value, from time to time I see copies of DeLorean News on eBay. Nothing wrong with that in itself. However, what's interesting about this is that if the magazine was published in an electronic format, all it would take is one person to innocently host copies all the issues on a website and suddenly one of the things that members pay their dues for becomes a free-for-all on the `net. And from there, all it would take is some wiseguy to package all the magazines onto a CD-ROM and they would no doubt appear on eBay for 5 pounds a piece. I guess that's why some of those DeLorean video clips on the `net have the DMA logo watermarked in the background of them? ;-) You mentioned a trend among major publications to move to an online rather format; surely nothing to do with the massive advertising revenues to be made online? But the fault of the publishers who don't change with the times. Many main-stream publications have gone to electronic-only formats, and there is a good reason for it. ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
