Hi All A few weeks ago after my 700 mile round trip journey to DCS, 2957 developed an engine rattle, which was continuous and didn't change with revving, present at startup. No less that 4 of us tried to find it, to no avail. Talked to Rob Grady and inspected the "usual culprits", but no luck. 10 days ago, the rattle was suddenly replaced with a roar...uh oh, hole in the exhaust system? Turns out that the rattle was probably a 13 mm bolt that is in a hole on the passenger side of the car, back of the engine compartment worked its way out and the bolt and/or the washer was rattling. When it finally popped out, voila, exhaust roar. We found it using the old "rubber hose" trick...that is, place a rubber hose many places around and about the engine and see if you get hot air in the face. We then put a broomstick on top of the hole, and the roar went away. So, a $2 replacement bolt got rid of the roar and no rattle anymore. Talked to Rob, he says "sure, can happen" He mentioned that the hole was there for "emission testing". I had searched and searched on the DML for "engine rattle" and didn't find this mentioned. Since I didn't find anything on the DML about this, thought I'd pass it along. And...I couldn't find a diagram or mention of this in the shop manual, so as an FYI to others. Rob, as usual, thanks much! Joe B.
