Ken, I think you need to look in the mirror. You spank Kevin for asking the question if the DOA is unwilling to recognize other DeLorean groups, which is a valid question (I will expand that thought in a moment), and then you go on to make a negative comment about the DMA, Kevin's local group; true, but negative nonetheless. The first person who should apologize is you. Your comment was uncalled for and not the kind of statement I'd expect from the President of a club, especially club that appears to have a negative stigma associated with it for a lot of people. I understand that you are taking the DOA in a new direction, and that's great, but you have to realize that a lot of people still have a very bad taste in their mouths where the DOA is concerned and you will either have to overcome that or understand that these people will never be your fans. As for addressing Kevin's question, in the past the DOA has tried to organize events in the backyard of several successful clubs without even contacting them, and I know of at least one event that failed as a result, perhaps not as a direct result, but it certainly looks that way. There may be more but I am only aware of the facts of one in particular. The others may have been successes, but I never heard anything about them. When you want to hold an event where there is a local club established, common courtesy dictates that you, at the very least, contact the local club and let them know of your plans. Whether you want to invite them to participate, help, plan, or merely attend, that's just the right thing to do. History has shown that in the recent past, two such events were planned by the DOA without so much as making an attempt to contact the local clubs. That's as good as saying "we don't need you" whether or not you ever make that actual statement. So you can see, feathers have been ruffled because the DOA has snubbed local clubs on two occasions that I personally know of, and one of the clubs I believe is the largest DeLorean club around. Big enough that Ken Koncelik keeps his car show within a narrow radius of their population because he will get the most attendance from that group of owners and enthusiasts. So understand that comments and questions such as Kevin's may not be intended to slam the DOA, but to point out there there is a better way of doing things, perhaps constructive criticism. Sure, there's animosity in the Delorean community against the DOA, but if you're truly interested in overcoming that, I would think you would be more inclined to listen and act than you would be to attack. Me, personally, I am taking a "wait and see" attitude with the DOA before making any decisions. I am looking to see if the DOA is going to be tolerant of local groups and interested in partnering and working with other clubs for events, shows, and just fun get- togethers. IMHO-and it is worth exactly what it cost you-what I am seeing up to now can best be described by The Who as: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." I'm still hoping that things will change. Nowhere did he segregating DeLorean owners. That is not the kind of crap we participate in. People like you accuse us of doing that and we don't. Why doing you get off your high horse and stop this and start enjoying your hobby!!! We have been working diligently with ALL organizations and you know it! I'm getting tired of this. Since the election we have been doing nothing but working with the entire DeLorean community. You know it because you called me to talk about it. Your comment is unnecessary and we deserve and appology. By By the way, how is the DMA doing?
