Don't panic yet. You may be able to salvage the wiring harness. If you carefully dissect the melted area, trying to not cut the copper wires, you may be able to get it going again. It's worth a try anyway, worst you can do is "damage" it? Cut it all loose and tape up the copper wire. It probably is not a very long length anyway, just one or possibly 2 spots. Used ones are always questionable, the venders have NOS still available, they are just a little expensive. Not as expensive as having to rebuild your transmission because you drove on a defective shift computer! So, you mean to say you haven't been under your car in YEARS!!!!!! There are a alot of other things you should be checking like the C/V boots, final drive fluid level, suspension, TAB's, leaks, rust, etc. David Teitelbaum vin 10757 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "Robert Moseley" <videobob@...> wrote: > > I have had trouble with my auto transmission for years now, > I had to rig it up with a toggle switch to go from 1st to 3rd gear > by turning the computer on and off. > It finally stopped working and got stuck into 3rd. > Reverse seems to work fine. > I finally put the car up on ramps to have a look at this > "computer" and how to remove it and I began to trace the > harness and I was shocked to find that it had been resting > on the exhaust and was melted and rusted together!!! > I don't know for sure if there is even anything wrong with > the computer or if it was just this harness. > I need to get the entire computer and harness replaced. > > Does anyone have one of these for sale? > Thanks. > - VB > VIN#5278 > ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
