The stock DeLorean alternator was a Duecellier 80 amp unit which has often been criticized as under powered and unreliable, likely justifiably so. The alternator in my 1978 Cadillac Eldorado failed recently and I was surprised to learn when I replaced it, that it was a 63 amp unit. The Eldo has power everything, however it does not have electric cooling fans, the fan runs off the engine with a separate belt. To my surprise Advance Auto had a remanufactured one in stock. The 80 amp unit used on the DeLorean may have been considered a high powered unit at the time it was chosen.
