[DML] Re: Original Shop Manuals

A while back DMCH was working on a revised Workshop Manual and Parts
Manual. I sent them my notes. I never heard anything about it after
that. Maybe you might want to talk to James E about it. It would be a
good idea but it is a monumental project. Too much for 1 person on a
part-time basis to do with no hope of monetary reward. The biggest
problem is once a "new" manual gets out there is no way to prevent
copies from appearing and cutting into sales. An interactive computer
version would be the only way to go. That way you could control the
distribution. Even with that the potential market is just too limited,
that's why we continue to live with what we have. It's not so bad when
you look around at what some other "Orphan" car owners have to work with!

On a related subject, I am working with Ken on a "Guess the Part" kind
of quiz for DCS '08. Have your Parts Manuals handy, some of the parts
are not going to be easy! Here's a hint, some of the parts cannot be
found in the Parts Manual!

Here's an idea. If a bunch of us could get together at DCS'08 and
create a committee to update the manuals, that way we could break the
task up into more manageable, smaller pieces. It would also help with
the "proofing" so we can catch each other's mistakes.
