The large brass gear is cracked, from the center out to between two teeth. You can remove the cover, bend the metal back at the edges that holds it on or remove it at all but a few places. Remove the gear and grind down the side of the teeth on either side of the crack on the side away from the crack, more on the tooth near the crack and progressively less on the next 3 teeth. Put the gear back and see how it works. Replace the cover and peen over the bent back metal to hold it in place in a few places. BOTH my window motors had this failure mode and it may be the failure on most window motors. You'll need a grinding disk wheel on a Dremel tool or the like to grind between the teeth or a very small file. Take off about 1/2 of the tooth thickness on the teeth next to the crack. Surprisingly, my windows have continued to work for years after this repair. If you try it, tell me now it works for you. I took it apart and found, that something is braking the gear and motor. motor itself runs OK (have it here at work on the bench, power supply up to 20Amps available). as soon as I put it back together there is a point once per revolution of the gear, where the whole thing moves a bit. seems as there ist something between motor axle/drive and the gear. Tightening the two motor screws may stop the motor from running at all at this special position. Has anybody ever opened the gear / bearing system of the window drive ? maybe the bearing has a problem, but I don't see how to open the housing without destroying it so that I can put it back together in the end. I know I have to buy new window drives, but I want to reinstall it until I have the new stuff. Any help is appreciated. Looks like this is something where Bill's R. creativity could be helpfull.
