Hello Group, In the past we removed the crown nut to access the "O" ring and observed the original "O" rings look and feel like the new replacement. We discontinue replacing the "O" ring some time ago and with the exception of the first two single lip seal replacements, we began using double lip seals. We buy the double lip seals in cartons and also supply to another vender. In the past ten years we replaced the lip seal only on most cars we serviced and have had one call back as a leaker. Aligning the lip seal to the shaft is critical to non leaking. We tack welded a 2 3/8" machine flat washer to a 1 1/2" crown shape steel fence post top (Home Depot). Tapping the fence post top with a light weight machinist hammer until the seal is flush with the housing provides a perfectly aligned seal. Double lip seals are offered on our website.
