There is another big point to be made here. Any "competant" mechanic can do the clutch in a Delorean. That said, they will not know what to look for and how things "should" be. They will not know to inspect the TABS while under the car, the routing of wires and hoses, the typical source of leaks, etc. Many of the cars that I see have had "modifacations" mainly because the "competant" mechanic did not know how things are supposed to be on a Delorean, like the car Dave S had with no starter lock-out. Some of the most creative wiring can be found in the fuel pump circuit. From bypassing the fuse block and the RPM switch to the inertia switch to get the pump to run. A "competant" mechanic would not see that. Hopefully this list will educate everyone in the quirks and even if you can't or won't do the work yourself, at least you will have some inkling of what is required. BTW quality mechanics ARE on the decline, too many kids don't want to get their hands dirty. Working on new cars has gotten very complicated and the "smart" kids that could do this stuff look to go into higher paying jobs in the computer fields.
