Best to find your local DeLorean club, and ask a knowledgeable owner to look at the car with you. If you tell us where you are from, someone on this list may be able to help you. As a matter of good advice, I don't think I would recommend a 27 year old car as primary transportation unless you have already spent considerable amount of time with it to gain confidence in it's reliability. Don't buy the car assuming you can just strip the paint off. I'd be suspect of any painted DeLorean as it is not uncommon to use paint to hide damages. The fact that the paint is in bad shape does not help your situation. Broken spedo is assumed on all DeLoreans. At least, I also assume that they have all been broken at one time or another. It is not a difficult fix, and I am sure if you have been reading this list for more than 3 months you have already ready about it plenty! The oil gage jumping is usually a bad sender. Easy enough to replace. The idle fluctuation is also not uncommon on DeLoreans, but it can get complicated to fix. Does that car drive OK? I dont quite understand the brake problem. Your saying the E-Brake wont hold the car when it is in gear? E-Brake system is not complex. It may be seized or need an adjustment.
