If you look all the way inside towards the top there is a molded rubber hose that dumps inside the right rear wheel well. Not very well ventilated but it is something. Hydrogen gas rises so it makes some sense to ventilate from the top. What I did was I hooked a hose to the battery and stuck it into the rubber hose in the back so the battery is directly connected to the outside. Lead/acid batteries don't gas much except when being charged and especially if they are being overcharged or charged at an excessive rate. In fact if a battery is hot or gassing too much it usually means the regulator in the alternator has failed. Lead/acid batteries should never be any more than warm to the touch. Higher than that and they get damaged. Overgassing, especially with the maintanece-free batteries is usually death to them, many have no provision to replace the electrolyte. In the "old days" we could test batteries with a hydrometer and we could measure each cell with a voltmeter. Today we can only load test them. Back then if you had a bad cell the battery shop could remove it and replace it with a new one. Now it is only done on large industrial batteries like the ones in electric fork trucks.
