Glued it up this morning -- I sure hope that was the right headliner I just installed. There is gobs of room to fit it into the vehicle as a single piece. I used to think that the two pieces were necessary to fit the fabric around the curved doorway, but that's obviously not the case because the rear curve is identical to the front curve, and the front curve is one piece. It takes several stabs to hit both roof retainers together, but certainly no more than 4 or 5 times. To be honest I have no idea why Dunmurry installed the original headliners as they did. A single piece installation is very easy and it sure looks a lot better than that overlapping seam. Very finished. I've always thought the factory installation looked rather amateurish. Good thing I'm not competing concours -- wonder how many points I'd lose for a proper headliner. I did modify the windshield installation a bit. Rather than gluing the fabric over that plastic piece, I folded and glued it to the back of the backerboards (just like the rear). That plastic piece is now a trim piece. When you look through my windshield you see black plastic, not grey fabric. With all these improvements (while the car is out of service I am *FINALLY* installing a new driver's power window assembly), #5939 may be the nicest car excluded from indoor display...
