They are not interchangeable. The first two versions are cast stainless steel, and fit specific door shapes (which also changed). In the later cars, they shifted to the plastic versions with weld nuts installed in the doors. The prior versions used sheet metal screws into the door skin. As noted above, since they are not interchangeable, you really can't switch from one to the other without some modifications to the door skin and/or door structure.
