As you probably know, horse power ratings for electric motors are different than gasoline engines. Here’s an explanation from Austinev.org: “Electric cars are driven by large electric motors usually rated between 3.5 and 28 horsepower. For those accustomed to gas engines, this may not seem like much power, but the rating systems used for gas engines and electric motors are so different that the numbering system is almost meaningless. Gas engines are rated at their peak hp, electric motors are rated at their continuous hp. The peak hp of an electric motor is usually 8 to 10 times its continuous rating.” That being said... here are some specs: 9.25” diameter, series wound DC motor, Weight, approx. 156 pounds, 32.3 HP (72 Volts, 335 Amps)*, 70 Ft. pounds torque*, 5,500 RPM's Now I will be able to put a maximum of 170 Volts at 1000 Amps into the motor for short periods of time, so the peak HP and Torques should be a lot higher. The 11 inch motor is a lot heavier, bigger and more costly... however maybe next time.... Thank you, Dave Delman 1981 Electric DeLorean Project electricdelorean.com 2a. What was the consideration to go with the 9, instead of say, the 11? Great work! Can't wait to see more!
