Would you consider painting your surround? Spot putty (the small scale finish filler for Bondo air pockets and sanding marks) would work wonders on those scars. It's extremely easy to use. Dries within minutes, then sand with 400 grit. Prime with a sticky primer, *NOT* that grey mess (I prefer rusty metal primer -- sticks to everything), and finish with a flat or matte topcoat. I just painted my mirrors and side louvers with a textured flat black. Look incredible.
