The only problem I see with the engine turned around is decreased airflow across the alternator. Fan blades are totally useless. Air that flows across it naturally is pre-heated by the engine & exhaust. I'm convinced that's why we have so many more alternator problems than Volvo owners with the same motorola units. Slinging all that weight behind the rear axles is a differnt issue altogether. That's why we have larger than life rear wheels (that won't fit under the hood when flat). A mid engine design would have made our admittedly fine handling even better. Of course a mid mounted engine would be harder to access and work on. One thing you really have to give DMC credit for is isolating engine noise. Considering its close proximity, vertically as well as horizontally, the passenger compartment is exceptionally quiet. And while everyone oohs and aahs over the gull wing doors, I think a DeLorean looks best with them closed. The wide stance emphasizes its low overall height. A DeLorean in traffic is quite striking.
