Wrong, wrong, wrong. The engine was indeed certified in Volvo applications. Stainless Steel Illusion, the book,has quite a few words explaining how the EPA had to have the engine re-certified in the Delorean application before it could be used in the US in the Delorean. All the Delorean members of the brain trust just thought it could be plunked in the engine compartment and nothing but happiness would abound.
