Hello everyone, here is a little background and a multi-part question. We bought our Delorean earlier this year, non-running, and have been getting it ready to start, freshing up the cooling system, fuel system, ignition system, fixing broken wires, and so forth (I had the gas tank cleaning question last month). There is some evidence that it had gotten hot, rear fascia has some heat damage, as well as heat damage on some wires by the exhaust. We finally started it this past weekend, and it runs great, except for one issue. When we first start the cold engine everything is just fine. As it starts heading up it starts belching white smoke, quite a bit of it. I think what's happening is that there is a crack in one or both heads, as the car heats up the head expands and the crack opens up, water gets into the combustion chamber, voila, white smoke. Does that sound reasonable? Could it be something else I hadn't though of? Maybe a compression test would help verify, but maybe not since the crack is small when the engine is cold? I have a good place to work, tools, the job doesn't look horrible, and I'm pretty good in the garage so I'm comfortable doing this job myself. Any tricks or advice? Can you get aluminum heads repaired easily and reliable or should I look for replacements? Can I get heads off an Eagle Premier or other prv equipped car (I think there is one in a local pull-a-part)? If not where can I get Delorean heads? Thank you in advance for your help.
