I would say your friend has a very vivid imagination! Nothing too exciting, but new to me. Unfortunately I am in the process of moving and all of my books are packed away, but I'd imagine if I already read this it would have been in SSI or Dream Maker. The story is that early on in the car's development process (he couldn't be sure of the year), my friend remembers JZD rented "the abandoned Yale lock warehouse" in Stamford, CT. I am not familiar with that area so that is all I have to go on. My friend was sent there by his employer, a large industrial machine manufacturer, on a sales call and met with JZD himself. He said the facility was basically a huge empty warehouse with the exception of a small office area that "was made to look nice". He recalled JZD tried to steer him away from looking into the warehouse, presumably on accounts of it being dirty as well as unknown developments taking place under wraps there, but my friend recalled John seemed almost as proud as a small child and couldn't resist letting him have a peek at the project. All that my friend remembers was seeing one of the wooden mockups, which he described as a scale model of the car made with what appeared to be small squares of wood, the whole of which was shaped by hand. This is where my memory kicks in of the photos in SSI of the wooden mockup, but I thought it was at Lotus in the UK. My friend made another sales call there, and then a third. On the third visit the door was unlocked and nobody was around, he said the place looked like nobody had been there recently and that someone nearby told him, "DeLorean got out of here one step before the sheriff came looking for him. He owes a lot of people money." And that's the end of the story. Nobody from DMC ever followed up with my friend's company. Anyone know any more about this, or able to verify any of it? .
