This discussion about the annoying "buzzer" prompted me to share my solution. Under the driver's side dash above the steering column is a plate that has the buzzer unit on it as well as the wiper module, etc. I unplugged the plate and removed it from the car, desoldered the buzzer and cut it out with a Dremel tool. I then replaced it with Radio Shack #273-071 80dB Chime module. Re-installed the plate being careful to get all the little clips that hold it in place reconnected, and presto! - my car now has a pleasant "ding-dong" sound instead of the annoying buzzer. The polarity of the chime unit is important and the red wire must connect to the +12V side of the buzzer connection. The lights (headlight or door) have no affect on the buzzer. The buzzer only makes a racket when the door is open (with it's own door switch), or briefly when starting if the seat belt is not buckled. > > If the key is off, the buzzer will do nothing, so it won't really help with anything after you shut the car off. If you need a headlight safety, you can buy a Battery Buddy automatic cutoff, or Houston has a nice solution coming with the new headlight switch logic box. I'm not sure what the status is of the headlight switches now (I haven't been paying much attention, 'cause I don't need one), but I did see some parts at the open house that looked nice. > > I just disconnected my buzzer because every time I started the car, my passengers would think something was wrong!
