[DML] Garage Carpet??

Hi gang,
   
  Was at a show this weekend and was talking to the owner of a 63 Corvette. He told me that for winter storage he has the car sit on a carpet in his garage.
   
  Before I could ask anything further a crowd had gathered around the Delorean and I had some of the usual questions to answer. By the time I was done he had moved on.
   
  Does a carpetted garage have ANY benefit? To the tires maybe? Seems to me potentially dangerous if you run the engine in the winter.
