The limitation on the 5 speed transmission is the primary input shaft. The gearbox (Renault 369, later the UN1 on the Lotus Esprit) is a good basic design, however at that time (1980s) vehicles did not produce the massive HP and torque we see today. The primary shaft has a few diameter change "steps" which create a severe weakness when applied to high torque; it's only missing a a "break here" marking! The upgrade kit my company is designing will address all underlying flaws to handle high engine output. It will be available this fall; only 15 kits are being manufactured. Pre-purchase details will be on the website in July.
