There may be other places to hide the control unit of an alarm system. Mine is hidden behind the parcel bulkhead board. Should you want to keep the alarm system, first find the unit. When found, note make and type and find a reseller that can help you. A proper alarm system comes with a certificate mentioning its class. You then have all information to get service as well as eventually missing parts. You always can cntact the previous owner. He should be able to point to the location of the unit and perhaps tell you which accessories he had (remote control, etc). Maybe the cheapest solution.
