I had an interesting discussion with a person from my local area tonight. They are attempting to sell their Delorean on Craigslist.com and received a check today from an "offshore" account and a completely differed Canadian phone number. The asking price for their Delorean was $23k. The check was for $34K. The buyer was not available via phone, saw NO photos of the car, and asked no questions. "Don't Cash it! It's a scam!" I urged them. I politely filled them in on how people scam via this method and just want the cash (Thanks Dave T. for telling me about these types of crooks!) They are contacting their bank and the local authorities first thing tomorrow. I guess even craigslist.com is no longer safe. Can you imagine what might have happened to that car? Where it would have wound up had they shipped it to a bogus offshore address? :( Oh yeah.not to mention the $$$ they would have lost.
